Tagore’s Strir Patra at Experimental Theatre Hall

Rabindranath Tagore, the greatest Bengali poet and litterateur, had always portrayed women’s struggle through his literary works, to establish their individual identity and for their socio-political rights in the then conservative society. However, the struggle for freedom and equal rights in our society remain almost the same as it was in hundred years ago. And that’s why the appeal of Tagore’s Strir Patra crosses the boundary of times and bears the shadow of the toils and travails of women in the present society.

Theatre group Jionkathi is going to stage Tagore’s Strir Patra with a solo performance by Ferdousi Abedin Lina today at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy at 7:30pm.Ferdousi has been working on Strir Patra for the last five years and in February, 2005 Jionkathi staged the play for the first time.Courtesy: The New Age August 17, 2005

Update: Bomb panic stops cultural activities in city

Cultural activities in the city came to a standstill yesterday evening as a series of bomb blasts earlier in the morning sent a wave of panic across the country.

Jionkathi, a cultural organisation, also cancelled a solo performance by Ferdausi Abedin Leena, which was due to take place at the Experimental Theatre Stage at the Shilpakala Academy.
